Where do we send employees for tests?
You will be given a collection site near your facility. Compliance Plus
will ensure that the site has all of the required materials and information
to perform the collection. Compliance Plus will be responsible
for payments to the collection site for urine drug screen collections
and breath alcohol tests unless other arrangements have been made.
Do we have to schedule tests through Compliance Plus?
It is not necessary to schedule tests for your employees through
Compliance Plus. You may want notify us that you are sending
an employee, however, since this can facilitate the testing
process. It is advisable to give each employee to be tested
an appointment sheet to give to the site to avoid confusion.
You may use ours or develop one of your own. You may
also schedule tests online through our secure web site.
What if an employee needs a test and is not near our facility?
Compliance Plus has a nationwide network of collection
sites available. Call our toll-free number 24 hours per day,
seven days per week and we will find a site for you.
How are NEGATIVE drug test results reported?
Preliminary results can be provided via phone, fax or e-mail
(see form). Compliance Plus clients may also access
negative results through our secure web site. However,
under the Department of Transportation regulations, results
are not final until a signed hard copy of the result
is received from the Medical Review Officer (MRO).
When can I expect results to be reported?
Negative test results will normally be reported to the company
within 24 hours. A result cannot be reported until it
is received from the laboratory AND a signed copy
of the Custody and Control Form is reviewed by the MRO.
What happens if the laboratory reports a POSITIVE drug test result to the MRO?
In the event of a confirmed positive test, the MRO will contact the
donor, seeking medical history or other relevant biomedical
information in search of a possible legitimate explanation
of a the positive result to determine if there is a legal reason
for the presence of the substance in the donor's urine. If
there is no legal reason, the result will be reported to the
employer as POSITIVE. The MRO will inform employees
who test positive of split test options. If there is a verified
legal reason for the presence of the substance in the
donor's urine, the result will be reported as NEGATIVE.
How does the MRO contact the donor?
The MRO will make three attempts to contact the donor within
twenty-four (24) hours after receiving the test result from
the laboratory. If no contact has been made within twenty-four
hours, MRO will request that the employer attempt to contact
the donor and have the donor call us. If no contact is made
within seventy-two (72) hours after the donor is contacted
by the employer, the employer will be notified and given the
result of the test. If the employer is unable to contact the
donor, the result will be reported ten (10) days after the
receipt of the result from the laboratory.
Who does the MRO report the results to?
The MRO will only report results to the Designated Employee Representative (DER).
Upon contact, the MRO will ask the DER for an identification number. The DER,
after getting the result, is then solely responsible for keeping the result
confidential within the company.
What do we do when the MRO reports a POSITIVE result?
For DOT regulated employees, the employee who tests POSITIVE must
be immediately removed from their safety sensitive position. The
employee must be evaluated by a Substance Abuse Professional
(SAP) and successfully pass a return-to-duty drug test in order
to resume working in the safety sensitive position. The SAP will
also require a follow-up testing program for the employee.
What about alcohol test results?
Breath alcohol test results will be reported directly to you by the collection
site. You should immediately fax or mail a copy of the result to us so
that we may enter it into our system for your statistics and to enable
us to pay the collection site for their services.
Should our company have a written Substance Abuse Policy?
Absolutely! While there are no specific regulations that require a policy,
it is very strongly recommended that you have one in place
to protect the company, the employees and the public.
Compliance Plus can assist in policy development and review.
How are employees chosen for random tests?
Employees are chosen for random tests by a computer generated random
program. Selections are absolutely at random and an employee
may be chosen in consecutive months.
How do we update our list of active employees?
Your list of active employees must be updated monthly by sending us
a completed Add/Delete Form or a list of active employees and
Social Security Numbers. You may also update your list online through the Compliance Plus web site.
What do we do if we are notified to send an employee for a random test?
The employee must proceed to the collection site immediately upon
notification by the company. It is not necessary that the employee
be notified immediately upon receiving the selection from
Compliance Plus. The company may wait for convenient
time to notify the employee. For example, a driver may
be notified upon his/her return to the terminal rather than
while on the road. However, the test should be completed
within the selection period.
Can a person leave the collection site before they complete their test?
No. Once an employee begins the testing process, he/she may not leave.
If the employee is unable to give a specimen, he/she will be required to
remain at the collection site for three hours and will be asked to consume
up to 40 ounces of fluids. If after three hours the employee is still
unable to provide a specimen, he/she will be required to see a physician
to determine whether or not a physical condition exists that prevents
the donor from giving a specimen.
What happens if an employee does not report for his/her test after being notified?
If an employee fails to report for a random drug test after being notified, or in any way
interferes with or inhibits the testing process, it is considered a "refusal to test"
and is treated as if the test were POSITIVE.
How will we be billed for tests?
Billing for services will be made weekly. Payment for services should be
made within 30 days from receipt of an invoice. A charge of
1 1/2% per month on the unpaid balance over 30 days may
be assessed.
